About Us

Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Physical Education is to educate a globally diverse NC State population regarding the benefits of living a healthy and physically active lifestyle by providing equal opportunities and professional preparation in sport, fitness, health and recreation.

Instruction

The Department of Physical Education offers a variety of both activity and lecture courses. The Department also provides four academic minors including Coaching Education, Health, Outdoor Leadership, and Sports Science. A new Emergency Medicine Program, in collaboration with CALS/Biology, is in its first year of operation. The Department serves both traditional and non-traditional students with courses offered through Distance Education courses.

NC State Physical Education Requirement

All students attending North Carolina State University are required to complete two Physical Education courses to meet the University General Education Requirement (GER). One course must be a Fitness and Wellness course (Fitness and Wellness courses are those found in the PE 100-level series). Students with disabling conditions and special needs will be accommodated and assisted by the Department of Physical Education and the Disability Services Office.

Public Service

The Department's public service contributions encompass instruction, continuing education, research, public school outreach, community engagement, and special needs activity involvement.
