Minor Programs

The Department of Physical Education offers the following academic minors for interested students. Click on a Minor for more information.
  • The Department of Physical Education offers a 17 credit hour Coaching Education minor designed for undergraduate students wishing to pursue careers in coaching team or individual sports and for students that may become involved in coaching athletic teams on a volunteer or supplemental basis. Students obtaining a minor in coaching education develop a foundation of essential coaching skills in a variety of sports areas and knowledge in related topics such as athletic training, sport management and sport science. Students will also apply their knowledge and skills in a coaching practicum.
  • The Department of Physical Education offers a Sport Science Minor designed for students who desire a greater understanding of the physiological and biomechanical principles of exercise and fitness. The minor provides coursework in anatomy, physiology, nutrition, biomechanical principles, prevention and treatment of athletic injuries, exercise leadership, and health behavior.

  • The Department of Physical Education offers a 15-hour Health minor that is designed for undergraduate students wishing to pursue careers in health-related professions and for students wishing to gain in-depth knowledge in various contemporary health-related topics for their own personal development. The minor provides students with theories, concepts, and practical skills concerning health behavior and includes a practicum to apply theory to practice.
  • The Department of Physical Education offers a 16-hour minor in Outdoor Leadership that is designed for undergraduate students desiring to pursue careers as outdoor leaders of adventure-based programs or for those who wish to enhance their personal development and enjoyment. Students will develop a foundation of essential leadership skills and experience through course work focusing on outdoor skills and leadership training. Students will also have an opportunity to apply theory to practice through a practicum.
